WHAT TO EXPECT with Saltfire
We hold OPEN AUDITIONS for every show.
Each director will approach auditions a bit differently, but we aim to have a low-stress environment with plenty of friendly banter, group warm-ups, and readings from the play. We typically use "sides" (portions of scenes from the show) for auditions.

Please speak to the director or a board member if you are concerned, uncomfortable, or see anything amiss that you’d like to see addressed.

What to expect with Saltfire:
- We are a community theatre and love the collaboration and togetherness that theatre builds, so we appreciate a willingness from cast and crew to pitch-in when needed.
- We strive to create a healthy and joyous experience for the cast/crew, the audience, and the community.
- We work in collaboration – but attempt to be mindful of when and how input is best absorbed by directors, cast, and crew. This might be different for each rehearsal process and individual.
- Your director is ultimately in charge of the project, so please go to them first with questions you have or contributions you’d like to make to the process.
- We save a portion of the proceeds from each show for future projects and distribute the rest out to the cast/crew as honorariums.
What to expect in rehearsal:
- We will establish a method of sharing information (email, google calendar, text, etc) at the beginning of the rehearsal process and expect that form of communication to be primarily used throughout the rehearsal/performance process.
- We strive to begin every rehearsal on time, so please leave yourself enough time to arrive and settle before the scheduled rehearsal time.
- We attempt to take a 10 minute break every 90 minutes. But please be communicative if you need a different schedule.
- If there is a need for an Intimacy Coach we will attempt to provide one. Cast members playing characters involved in intimate situations will be given ample time for an Intimacy Call in rehearsal and during performances.
- We like to hang out together too – so we often go out after rehearsal. If there are younger folks in the cast, we will attempt to choose venues that are age appropriate (under 21), but this isn’t always possible late in the evening in PT.
What we expect from you and ourselves:
- Bring everything you need to be comfortable in rehearsal (chair, food, water, etc) and let your Director and Stage Manager know if you need any accommodation.
- Contact your Director AND Stage Manager if you are running late or need to adjust a rehearsal. The more notice we have the better we can adjust.
- Cell phones can be a distraction to the world we are creating together in the rehearsal room. Save your phone for breaks and/or use it as sparingly as possible.
- We ALL create the culture of the show. We hope you will come to each rehearsal with a willingness to create beautiful theatre and enjoy each other’s company in the process!
